CHARACTER'S NAME: Cao Pi.
FANDOM: Dynasty Warriors.
CANON PERSONALITY: Cao Pi is the son of Cao Cao, a.k.a. the most famous (and most ruthless) warlord in Chinese history, so when it comes to power, luxury, and other people's wives, Pi is used to getting what Pi wants. However, he has a deep inferiority complex from constantly living in his father's shadow and not being able to trust his own advisors. Occasionally this seething frustration breaks through his cold, arrogant exterior as a brutal fit of anger, but he usually funnels his emotion into an ambitious plan to outdo his father and become Emperor. Unlike many princes, Cao Pi is an experienced swordsman with a very precise and deadly style.
"ESPALION" BACKGROUND: Cao Pi is the heir apparent to a wealthy and influential Trivignian military family originally of foreign origin (they have kept the custom of writing family name first, so Cao is is surname). His father is Duke of Vicenza, one of the most powerful men in the kingdom, and Pi himself is bethrothed to King Gervais' youngest daughter. As he sees it, this means there are only a few people he has to kill before he can become King of the most powerful country in the world. However, Cao Pi's father was perceptive enough to realise his son's megalomaniacal nature, and has kept him on a very short leash. He was sent to the Royal Military Academy for training in naval warfare and swordsmanship, but denied his own command. He was given the subsidiary title of Marquis of Vernasca thanks to his father's prominence at court, but as Issoire is under direct royal control, Pi has virtually no political input. He sees this "honor" as yet another personal snub. In fact, he suspects that his father intends to have him discreetly assassinated by "pirates" so one of his younger brothers can succeed the family peerage. However, Cao Pi's ambitions are not to be taken lightly - he intends nothing less than to conquer Espalion and Issoire in order to seize the trade routes and usurp the throne of Trivigno. However, at the moment he is little more than yet another young, idle nobleman residing in Espalion's capital with few resources other than immense wealth with which to realise his aspirations. He has some involvement in trade since he nominally in charge of an important port city, and he has a ceremonial military rank of lieutenant. Although he has some of the typical Old World prejudice against pirates and people of "slave" races, he realises that they are a potential resource for his power grab. A nation of disgruntled people could be a powerful tool against Trivigno... so Cao Pi is an unlikely opponent of the oppression on Issoire. Since he is wary of assassination, he maintains smaller alternate residences on both the island and mainland of Espalion, and he carries two large, ornate swords that can connect to form a double-ended spear.
